The agreement reached between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by Mazloum Abdi, and the new Damascus authority, led by Ahmad Al-Shar’a (known as "Abu Mohammad Al-Jolani"), who is internationally classified as a terrorist, is nothing but a clear reflection of a political deal orchestrated within American and Turkish decision-making circles. This agreement blatantly disregards the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people in Syria. It is not a step towards a solution but rather a flagrant violation of the national demands and historical rights of the Kurdish people, who cannot be reduced to the term "Kurdish community" within Syria. Instead, they are an indigenous people living on their historical land, with legitimate national rights, including the right to self-determination as guaranteed by international laws and conventions.
The manipulation of political terminology in this agreement, particularly the discourse on "integrating the Kurdish community" instead of recognizing the Kurdish people as a national entity with constitutional rights, is a clear attempt to circumvent the essence of the Kurdish issue in Syria. Any just solution must be based on a binding constitutional agreement under the supervision of the United Nations, grounded in international law, which guarantees the rights of peoples to determine their own destiny freely, without external interventions aimed at undermining these rights or imposing coercive solutions that do not reflect the true will of the Kurdish people.
As for the agreement announced on March 10, 2025, it is nothing more than an attempt to rescue Al-Jolani from international accountability for his crimes, particularly those committed against various Syrian components, including the Alawite community in the Syrian coastal region. Accepting an agreement that grants political legitimacy to a figure internationally listed as a terrorist—who bears responsibility for fueling sectarian conflicts and committing severe violations—is an unacceptable transgression. This agreement does not represent a step towards justice or stability; rather, it reflects opportunistic alliances designed to settle regional and international scores at the expense of Kurdish rights and those of other Syrian communities.
We categorically reject this agreement and do not consider ourselves bound by any of its provisions. It is not an agreement between Syrian components genuinely seeking a fair solution but a political deal crafted within American and Turkish decision-making circles, without any regard for the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people or guarantees of a just constitutional solution. Any commitment to an agreement must stem from genuine popular will, not from political settlements aimed at rehabilitating parties involved in terrorism and serious violations against Syrians.
Accordingly, we affirm that any path that does not respect the national rights of the Kurdish people and does not recognize them within a legitimate international constitutional framework will remain a fragile project, destined to collapse at the first political or field test. We reject any attempt to compromise the fate of our people under any circumstances and emphasize that a just and legitimate solution must be based on United Nations resolutions and the will of the Kurdish people themselves—not on agreements formulated in the corridors of regional and international interests at the expense of the rights and legitimate aspirations of the people.
