A Distorted Environment and a Distorted Society Cannot Produce Healthy Individuals
By: Dr. Adnan Buzan A human being is not an entity isolated from his surroundings. Rather, he is a product of the environment in which he grows up and a reflection of the values he receives, the circumstances he experiences, and the relationships that contribute to shaping his consciousness from childhood. When oppression prevails, people learn fear. When lying becomes a means of survival, people learn deception. When opportunism is rewarded, honesty becomes a form of naivety. When truth is humiliated and the oppressor is rewarded, a generation grows up losing its faith...

Word of the Day: The Dome of the Syrian Parliament... When the People Are Absent and Appointments Take Their Place
By Dr. Adnan Bouzan A parliament is not merely a chamber filled with rows of seats, nor a platform for delivering speeches, nor an institution that merely completes the image of the state before the world. In the philosophy of the modern state, parliament is the institutional embodiment of the people's will—the arena where citizens' voices travel from the ballot box to the halls of legislation, oversight, and accountability. Consequently, the legitimacy of any legislative assembly begins with a question that cannot be ignored: Who chose these representatives? In contemporary political systems, the legitimacy of institutions is measured not by their appearance or their title, but by the process through which they are constituted. Political history has witnessed a wide variety of governing models—from liberal democracies to...

The Outcomes of the Iranian–Israeli War: State Disintegration and the Explosion of the Middle East
By Dr. Adnan Bozan In recent days, we have witnessed an unprecedented escalation between Iran and Israel. The confrontation has moved beyond indirect conflict and limited security skirmishes to a state of open war with multiple dimensions: missiles, assassinations, cyber operations, and drone attacks. This is not a traditional war between two standing armies on a defined battlefield. Rather, it is a hybrid war in which geography intersects with technology, religion with geopolitics, and overt operations with covert ones — a war entangled with both internal and external actors. The Present: A Complex and Intertwined War Scene At this very...
The Kurdish Cause Needs a Courageous Authority and Responsible Political Forces
By: Dr. Adnan Buzan Whenever the Kurdish cause returns to the forefront of events, it brings with it a question that has remained without a definitive answer for decades: Why does a cause with such profound historical, political, and social roots continue to search for a path toward a just and stable solution? And why do some authorities still approach it through a security-oriented mindset, or attempt to reduce it to an...

Is Trump Threatening to Spark a New Debt Crisis in the Eurozone?
By: Dr. Adnan Bouzan At the beginning of his second term, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to impose new tariffs of up to 25% on imports from the European Union. With the escalation of the trade wars he has initiated, some did not expect his policies to have a rapid impact on the European economy, which is already facing huge challenges. However, with ongoing economic crises in major EU countries,...

Ignorance and the Illusion of Knowledge
By: Dr. Adnan Bouzan Ignorance is not simply the absence of knowledge. A person’s ignorance of a particular truth may, in fact, be an honest beginning of knowledge. The deeper and more dangerous form of ignorance, however, is to be ignorant of one’s own ignorance—to allow a deficiency of knowledge to transform, within one’s consciousness, into complete certainty, and to believe that one knows merely because one possesses an answer, rather than because one has attained the truth. This is where the illusion of knowledge begins: when the answer becomes a barrier that prevents the question, and when certainty ceases to be a provisional instrument for understanding the world and becomes a closed prison that prevents the mind from seeing anything beyond its own boundaries. Human beings do not fear...

Between God and Power: Deconstructing the Instrumentalization of the Sacred in the Production of Violence and Domination
By: Dr. Adnan Bouzan Introduction: Since the moment the human being first lifted his head toward the sky, he was not merely searching for an explanation of thunder and lightning, nor solely for an answer to the question of death. He was searching for meaning—meaning for his existence in a world suspended between chaos and order, between fear and...

I Am Outside the Birth of History
By: Dr. Adnan Buzan Mother... I was born... with the cry of pain, when the night was learning the names of its victims, and when the sighs were hiding their children beneath the cloak of silence. I was born... in the arms of sorrow, when time walked barefoot over our wounds, leaving at the doors of villages names that could find no graves. I was born... with the moaning of the dark...
