What is happening today against the Kurdish people in Syria is neither a passing event nor a random incident, but a systematic and deliberate policy aimed at pressuring and discrediting the Kurdish people. At times, it even amounts to what resembles genocide and orchestrated sectarian strife by parties with historical enmity toward the Kurds.
It is both regrettable and shocking to see that the Syrian government and army have stood by as mere spectators, while some racist Arab civilians took the place of the state in attacking Kurdish areas, resulting in the killing of innocent Kurdish civilians. These violations also include disgraceful acts such as removing the Syrian flag from Nowruz celebrations, burning the Kurdistan flag, and smearing it with shoes, all of which are morally and legally condemnable, as they reveal a blatant failure in the concept of national partnership and true integration among the components of the Syrian people.
What we are witnessing today indicates that racism and sectarian incitement have begun to replace the state and the rule of law, and that the new Syrian authorities have failed to establish a democratic government inclusive of all Syrians, guaranteeing equality and fundamental rights for all ethnic groups and communities. These violations are a serious warning that Syria could head toward a civil war if the situation continues, and that the current divisions may sooner or later lead to the partition of the country.
Therefore, I call on the Syrian authorities to intervene immediately to put an end to these unethical violations and to define the constitutional rights of the Kurds, ensuring their safety and protecting their regions from any aggression. I also urge the Kurdish people to remain vigilant and expel the elements of the Turkish Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) from Syrian Kurdish areas, as their presence has been a major factor in exposing the Kurds to this gratuitous confrontation with racist Arab-Islamist elements.
Furthermore, I call on the international community to intervene immediately, especially the United States and Israel, as their previous policies and actions have played a direct role in placing the Kurds in this confrontation. They must now take responsibility for protecting the Kurdish people and ensuring their safety.
The protection of Syria and its unity can only be achieved through respect for rights and equality among all its peoples, and any violation of Kurdish rights is not merely an ethnic or political issue, but a direct threat to the future of the Syrian state as a whole.
